Artist's Comments

After submitting my first version of this piece ([link]) I got a few tips and pointers about what I could improve and how.

So I tried to. Added a lot more lead to the paper and tried to come to terms with the tonal values and depth.
IMHO it did improve, but to be quite frank some mistakes where more or less unfixable. But then again; Lesson Learned!

(One big lesson is that I need to buy a better grain paper.. from the scan you might think I drew this on a plastered wall)

 a very fine portrait of a beautiful woman.
good tonal balance. good depiction of the gloss on the surfaces, keen highlighting. esp. the sheen on the hairs is noteworty!

critique (imho): the mouth is a tick to small and to pale; esp. the portions in shadow.

Oh it's totally different from the first version! You did a great piece. Shadows are very good and hair is perfect!
I like the blendings and glares on the glasses, though there's something strange with their perspective (maybe you were referring to that talking about unfixable things).

Wanna try new paper? Ever worked on Canson?

Thankyou so much!

Yep, a few perspective flaws were a few things that I didn't know how to fix without reworking all the shading, so I'm keeping that lesson until the next piece. (I'll refrain from mentioning other things, hoping that they will be overlooked ;) )

I'll have to check whether they carry Canson over here. I need to find something more agreeable to draw on.
This piece was done on some semi-no-name paper, but I have some Daler-Rowney that I'm going to try out next. It ought to be good considering the pricetag ;)

the manipulation of quality and purity of the light source is utterly amazing...
